Is detailing worth it in winter?
Short answer
Yes, and arguably more so. Winter road grime, de-icer and constant wet sit on the paint longer. Regular washes plus a sealant or coating before the season makes the biggest difference. APC washes by hand with soap and water from a pump sprayer and a snake wipe method, with no bucket and no hose rinse, so it doesn't clean the undercarriage.

Quick facts
| Biggest threats | Road grime, de-icer, constant wet |
|---|---|
| Best move | Protect before the season, wash every two weeks |
| Interior | Mud, moisture and salt on floor mats and carpets |
| Not cleaned at APC | Undercarriage |
Why would I detail a car that's just going to get dirty?
Because winter is when grime does the most harm. Road spray, de-icer and road film sit on the paint for weeks if the car isn't washed, and constant wet keeps them active. Washing removes it. A detail with protection makes it release more easily all season.
What's the best timing?
Ideally, before the wet season starts. A Decontamination Wash or Exterior Detail with a sealant, or Ceramic Pro Sport or a full coating, gives the paint a slick barrier. Then keep washing every two weeks if possible, monthly at a minimum.
What about the inside?
Winter means wet shoes, muddy boots and damp coats. Moisture soaked into carpets can lead to musty smells and foggy windows. A good interior clean and dry floor mats help a lot. See what interior detailing can remove.
What about the undercarriage?
De-icer and road grime collect underneath the car too. APC washes by hand with soap and water from a pump sprayer and a snake wipe method, with no bucket and no hose rinse, which uses a fraction of the water, so APC doesn't clean the undercarriage. A touchless wash with an underbody rinse is a reasonable option for that part.
At APC Auto Spa
APC's Decontamination Wash (about 2.5 hours) and Exterior Detail (about 4 hours) both finish with a sealant, a good pre-winter step. Ceramic Pro Sport (about 4 hours) adds a real Ceramic Pro coating with a 6-month warranty.
To keep up through the season, a Care membership spreads hand washes across the year and includes a yearly decontamination wash credit. Pricing for everything is on APC Auto Spa's detailing page.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I wash my car in winter?
- Yes. Every two weeks if possible and monthly at a minimum, by hand or touchless. Winter grime does more harm when it sits.
- Does APC wash the undercarriage?
- No. APC hand washes with soap and water from a pump sprayer and a snake wipe method, with no bucket and no hose rinse, so the undercarriage is not cleaned.
- When should I add protection before winter?
- Before the wet season starts is ideal, so the paint has a sealant or coating in place when the grime arrives.
