Parking garages: concrete dust, ceiling drips and tight-space scuffs
Short answer
Garages add concrete dust, mineral drips from the ceiling and scuffs from tight spaces. Clean off drips soon, before they dry and bond to the paint. Light paint transfer from a scuff can often be polished out. Dents and deep scratches are body work, which APC doesn't do.

Quick facts
| Ceiling drips | Clean off soon, before they dry and bond |
|---|---|
| Concrete dust | Wash off gently, never wipe dry |
| Light scuffs | Paint transfer can often be polished out |
| Dents and deep scratches | Body work, which APC doesn't do |
Why does a garage car still get dirty?
Concrete garages shed a fine, gritty dust, and cars driving in bring in road spray and grime. That dust settles on the hood and roof. It's abrasive, so wiping it off with a dry cloth is like rubbing the paint with very fine sandpaper.
What are those white spots from the ceiling?
Water seeping through concrete carries minerals with it. When it drips onto a car and dries, it leaves hard white or gray spots. Left for weeks, those minerals can bond to the paint and glass and become hard to remove. A gentle wash soon after you notice them is the best fix. Bonded spots usually need a decontamination step or a polish.
Can scuffs from tight spaces be fixed?
Often, if it's only paint transfer. When a bumper or door brushes a pillar or another car, it frequently leaves the other surface's paint sitting on top of yours. That can usually be polished away. If the scuff has gone through the clear coat or there's a dent, that's body work. APC doesn't do chip, dent or body repair.
How do I tell transfer from real damage?
Paint transfer sits on top of the surface and is often a different color from your car. Real damage is a groove you can catch with a fingernail, shows primer or bare plastic, or changes the shape of the panel. If you're unsure, a technician can tell you at a glance.
At APC Auto Spa
An Exterior Detail (about 4 hours) includes a wash, clay decontamination and a single-stage polish that removes light paint transfer and many mineral spots, then finishes with a sealant. Heavier defects may need paint correction, quoted on site and billed by the hour.
APC doesn't do chip, dent or body repair, because that is a different trade with different tools. If you supply touch-up paint, APC can apply it while the vehicle is in for another service.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I wipe garage dust off with a towel?
- Not dry. Concrete dust is abrasive and can scratch paint. Use a proper rinseless or waterless wash with plenty of lubrication, or have the car washed.
- Does APC fix door dings and dents?
- No. APC does not do chip, dent or body repair. If you supply touch-up paint, APC can apply it while the vehicle is in for another service.
- Will a coating stop mineral drips from sticking?
- A sealant or coating makes drips easier to remove and slower to bond, but drips should still be cleaned off soon.
